Brookfield Zoo

aakimon Nov 14, 2004
It seems like an older zoo with many concrete compounds, but several newer exhibits are larger and more natural. One caveat: you have to pay a couple bucks extra for several shows and exhibits, such as the dolphin show and the children's zoo

What should I be looking for? Are they Mantis', or chameleons, or leaves?

Haven't been there in a long time, but I remember it being a nice zoo. Got to see the lions and tigers feeding inside the big cat building...lots of roars and growls, very cool

The California Condor project has received mixed reviews. Some birds have been re-introduced, but mortality has been high. Some estimate the total wild population less than 100, but that's way up from their numbers in the '70s and '80s. For me, the fact that any birds has been released into and survived in the wild is a good sign.

    Thirteen?! Any multiple births?
It is interesting how cute just about any baby animal is, including a "little" rhino with tough, wrinkly skin.

Did you know that animals can run extremely fast in and out of the water. Faster than a human. You'd never guess by looking at them.

I like bats, but sf doesn't have an exhibit. Now, the Houston zoo did when I lived there and that was always cool.
